File Size Calculator

Enter a file size to see all equivalent units, estimate storage capacity, and calculate download times at common speeds.

How It Works

This calculator converts a file size into every common unit using binary (1024-based) prefixes. It also estimates how long a file would take to download at various connection speeds and how many copies fit on common storage media.

Binary prefixes (1024-based) are used by operating systems when displaying file sizes: 1 KB = 1,024 bytes, 1 MB = 1,024 KB, and so on.

Download times are calculated by dividing the file size in bits by the connection speed in bits per second. Real-world speeds may be lower due to protocol overhead, network congestion, and other factors.

Common File Sizes

  • Text document: 10–100 KB
  • High-res photo (JPEG): 3–10 MB
  • MP3 song: 3–10 MB
  • HD video (1 min): 100–200 MB
  • 4K movie: 50–100 GB
  • AAA video game: 50–200 GB
